Hope Lutheran Church, in devotion to our Lord Jesus Christ, Gathers for weekly worship services during which we share the Sacrament of Holy Communion, committing ourselves to the study of His word, to the education and nurturing of our youngest members, and to outreach in our community.
We are a sister congregation in the Beaver/Brighton Township Lutheran Parish where we and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church share a pastor and focus in worship and music. Together we have joint Advent and Lenten mid-week worship services with communion, at times using drama and the Holden Evening Prayer. Fellowship and dinners always precede! Additionally, there is an annual August outdoor Worship Service and Picnic, a time for the two congregations to enjoy being together as one, with Jesus at the center of our circle-of-friends parish.
Here is a word from Hope’s Director of Music, Sam Pasco:
For centuries music has moved us to the highest level of worship and adoration, and touched our soul’s deepest emotions. Music leads us in exaltation and praise, and provides comfort in times of grief. In keeping with our Lutheran heritage, music is an integral part of our worship services . We are proud of our music groups including the Choir and handbells. We offer both liturgical and contemporary services with a varied representation of hymns from our Evangelical Lutheran resources, with hymnals being available in each pew. If you are a singer or instrumentalist and would like more detailed information contact Sam directly.
Faithful stewardship arises from the understanding that our identity and well being are gifts from a gracious God who promises to always be with us. Both prayer and praise flow spontaneously from our hearts in response. But the church takes another step: It tells the story to others. This is the responsibility of the Stewardship Committee; we utilize the gifts the Lord has given to spread the good news.
Social Ministries: A Vision with a purpose.
Social = Group activities that are aimed at social benefits for the community.
“Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.
Ministry = Service
He has given every one of us a gift – A gift of ministry–a gift of service toward others. We respond in an organized way to support individuals who require a need. Some activities include: Our committee provides several Church luncheons throughout the year for our congregation. In addition, we do community activities that consist of food collections for the Salvation Army. Thanksgiving certificates for some needy families to have a nice meal at Thanksgiving time. We shop at Christmas time for a CYS family to give them the most blessed Christmas possible.
Like the apostles and evangelists, we are to spread the Good News of Jesus’ love for all the world. How can anyone be a follower if they don’t know about Him? It is our mission to spread the Good News by providing for everyone opportunities to learn about Jesus’ life and love. To that end, we provide many opportunities throughout the year to learn and grow.
September through May, we provide a Sunday School program for students age 4 through adult. We meet each Sunday at 9:45-10:45 with new curriculum each year. The Sunday School also accepts donations for a charity which the students choose every fall. Last year, we collected over $850 to donate to the ELCA Good Gifts Campaign. Also during the year, we collect special donations for the needy by supporting Harvest Home, Thanksgiving family, Christmas family, Souper Bowl, and other worthwhile causes.
The Youth Group also works to help home-bound members of the parish with chores around their homes, as well as plan fun events for the group and the entire congregation. The Sunday School students also participate in the Bible Bowl every year, which is a program for students 6th grade through high school similar to the TV program Jeopardy. This provides fun and education for the students. Each summer, our vacation Bible school program is an exciting opportunity for the entire community to become involved with learning about the Lord and having fun in the process.
The VBS program is a weekly event and runs June to early August. Also, each year our pastor provides classes for first communion and confirmation students so they can have specialized training about our faith and church in preparation for their full participation in the life of the church.
Besides the adult Sunday School class, our pastor also provides learning and worship opportunities during Advent and Lent as well as a Bible study class especially for women.
